Our Manufacturing Process

At Om Cottons, every garment follows a clearly traceable journey, from certified organic farms in India to your brand’s finished product. Built on 25+ years of textile expertise, our manufacturing process is designed for quality, transparency, and full GOTS compliance at every stage. This page walks you through exactly how we work.

Manufacturing Process Divided in 8 Steps

We believe that how a garment is made matters as much as the garment itself. That’s why we’ve built a process where sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s built into every step.

Step 1: Organic Cotton Sourcing

Every Om Cottons garment starts its journey in the fields. We source 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton from 50+ partner farms across India, farms that grow without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, preserving soil health and biodiversity. We work directly with these farming families, cutting out middlemen and ensuring full traceability from the very first seed.

Every bale of cotton we receive is traceable back to its farm of origin. This means your brand can confidently tell the full story of your garment, not just where it was stitched, but where it was grown.

  • 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton.
  • 50+ direct farming partnerships across India.
  • Zero synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
  • Full farm-to-garment traceability on every order.

Step 2: Ginning & Spinning

Once harvested, raw cotton arrives at our ginning facility where it is cleaned, separated from seeds and debris, and prepared for spinning. Our ginning process uses energy-efficient equipment and water recycling systems that reclaim 85% of water used at this stage.

The cleaned cotton fibres are then drawn out and twisted into yarn of consistent weight and thickness. No synthetic fibres are introduced at any point, the 100% organic integrity of the raw material is preserved from field to cone.

  • Energy-efficient ginning and spinning machinery.
  • 85% water recycled at the ginning stage.
  • Yarn weight and tensile strength verified before moving to fabric production.

Step 3: Knitting & Weaving

Spun yarn is knitted or woven into fabric according to the garment specification, including GSM, weave construction, and stretch properties. We produce a wide range of fabric types in-house, giving your brand flexibility in both feel and function.

Our fabric constructions include jersey, interlock, rib, waffle, twill, poplin, voile, fleece, and French terry, all in 100% organic cotton or certified blends. Whether your product requires a lightweight summer fabric or a heavier structured weave, we produce it under the same organic standards.

  • Knit constructions: jersey, interlock, rib, waffle, fleece, French terry.
  • Woven constructions: twill, canvas, poplin, voile, chambray.
  • Fabric weight range: 100 GSM to 320 GSM.
  • Custom blends available: cotton-linen, cotton-modal, cotton-cashmere.

Step 4: Low-Impact Dyeing & Finishing

Dyeing is one of the most chemically intensive and water-heavy stages in conventional textile manufacturing. At Om Cottons, we’ve rebuilt this process entirely. We use only natural or OEKO-TEX compliant low-impact dyes, zero toxic compounds, zero azo chemicals, and zero harmful discharge into local water systems.

Our dyeing facilities run on solar power and recycle 85% of water in every dye cycle. The result is fabric with consistent, repeatable colour across bulk production runs without the environmental cost of conventional dyeing.

Finishing treatments including softening, pre-shrinking, and surface finishing are applied using low-chemical processes that maintain the natural softness and breathability of organic cotton.

  • OEKO-TEX compliant dyes, zero toxic or azo compounds
  • 60% less water used compared to conventional dyeing
  • 85% of dyeing water recycled and reused
  • Solar-powered dyeing and finishing facility
  • Natural dye options available for eco-label collections

Step 5: Pattern Making & Cutting

Once fabric is ready, our technical team creates or adapts patterns based on your garment specifications. We grade each pattern across your required size range using industry-standard measurement charts or your own brand’s custom sizing if provided.

Fabric is then cut using zero-waste cutting techniques that minimise offcuts and reduce fabric waste across every production run. Salvage fabric from cutting is collected and directed to our recycling partners rather than going to landfill.

For private label clients, custom patterns are developed at no additional charge on orders above minimum order quantity. Our technical team can work from your existing tech pack or develop one from scratch.

  • Custom pattern development for private label orders.
  • Size grading to your brand’s specifications or standard international sizing.
  • Zero-waste cutting with fabric salvage programme.
  • Tech pack development available if needed.

Step 6: Stitching & Assembly

Garment panels are assembled by our team of 150+ skilled artisans on the production floor. Every artisan is a specialist, trained in their section of the garment and works under conditions that meet and exceed international Fair Trade standards. Living wages, safe workspaces, and dignified employment are not add-ons at Om Cottons. They are built into how we price, plan, and produce every order.

Stitch density, seam strength, and panel alignment are monitored at every assembly station. Each production run follows a detailed tech pack, your specifications are followed precisely, not approximated. Inline supervisors check adherence to construction standards throughout the sewing process.

  • 150+ skilled artisans across cutting, stitching, and finishing
  • Fair Trade certified: Living wages and safe working conditions
  • Inline production supervisors at every station
  • No sub-contracting: All stitching done in-house
  • Full tech pack compliance on every order

Step 7: Quality Control & Inspection

Quality at Om Cottons is not a final checkpoint, it is a continuous process built into every stage of production. We operate a three-point QC system that catches issues early rather than at the end of a production run.

In-Process Inspection

Quality checks happen on the production floor throughout stitching and assembly. Stitch density, seam alignment, measurement accuracy, and construction details are verified at each stage, catching problems before they reach the next step.

Pre-Wash & Fabric Testing

Fabric swatches from each production lot are tested for shrinkage, colourfastness, and pilling resistance before garments proceed to final assembly. Test results are logged and available to clients on request, giving your brand full visibility into material performance.

Final AQL Inspection

Every finished batch undergoes an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL 2.5) inspection, the international standard used by global retail brands. Garments are checked for measurements, construction defects, stitching consistency, finishing quality, and labelling accuracy. Only lots that pass AQL are cleared for packaging and dispatch.

  • AQL 2.5 final inspection on every production batch
  • Pre-wash shrinkage and colourfastness testing
  • Measurement accuracy verified against tech pack
  • Test reports available to clients on request

Step 8: Packaging & Dispatch

Garments that pass final QC move directly to our packaging station, where they are folded, tagged, and packed using 100% plastic-free, recycled, and biodegradable materials. No plastic polybags. No unnecessary packaging. Every shipment leaves our facility in line with our zero-plastic commitment.

For private label orders, we handle custom branded packaging end-to-end, including your brand’s woven labels, printed hangtags, tissue paper, and custom polybags (recycled or compostable). Your customer’s unboxing experience is part of what we deliver.

We ship to brands and retailers across Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia. Our logistics partners are selected for both reliability and sustainability, and we provide full export documentation, including GOTS transaction certificates, to support your compliance requirements.

  • 100% plastic-free, recycled, and biodegradable packaging.
  • Custom branded packaging for private label orders
  • GOTS transaction certificates included with every export shipment
  • Export to 30+ countries across Europe, North America, and Asia
  • Standard lead time: 45–60 days from order confirmation
